fess up friday - the hubs

It might be the hysteria from all of the One Room Challenge drama, but I'm trying something a bit different for Fess Up Friday today. The hubs and I were laughing about something the other night when he said, "I have plenty to fess up about!" Well, I will take that Pepsi challenge sir. Let's see what you've got! So without further adieu, here is my better half (this oughta be good). Ok Luke, fess up!

Hi all -The Hubs here...aka Luke.  You might recognize me from some of my photo's!

Or Here....

And my personal fave...I call this one "the double hand"

But this is what I really look like... I actually do have a head!

I am here to Fess Up for me and the husbands out there. I honestly have NO IDEA what Elizabeth is talking about 90% of the time. I really try to keep up, but her brain moves much faster than mine. From what room she wants to makeover (why do we need to makeover another room again?) to weekend plans, Elizabeth takes care of it all. I just kinda follow her lead. Once I was out with her and her lady friends and I swear they were three conversations ahead of me. We try ladies, we really do... but here are some examples of not being able to follow the bouncing red ball:

When Elizabeth says Blue & White, this is what she means:

This is what I think:

When Elizabeth says Foo Dog, this is what she means:

This is what I think:

When Elizabeth says Chinoiserie, this is what she means:

And honestly, I still don't know what that one means:

As you can all see, we usually start out at opposite ends of the spectrum.  But I always put on my listening ears and try to get where she is going.  And she hasn't steered me wrong yet.  Just ask her about the plaid couch of 1998, she will be all to happy to tell you about it.  However...there was that one time, Honey...**wink**wink.

On the bright side she didn't marry me for my design acumen. She DID marry me for my cocktail mixing skills.  I was a bartender in college, so I kept her tipsy most of the time I was trying to win her over. I STILL keep her tipsy, but that's for another fess up.

OK, I'm going to stop this right here. Thanks Luke for playing along. What about you? Does your partner understand what you are talking about each night at dinner? Do they nod and smile or just stare blankly?

  1. This might be my favorite Fess Up Friday to date!! I love the brutal honesty about Chinoiserie, and I think it's pretty awesome that you even TRY to understand it all Luke! Plus the cocktail mixing skills…..you hit the lottery E!

  3. This is HYSTERICAL! I laughed the whole way through. I'd be interested to throw some words at my hubby now and see what he thinks. Have a good weekend!

  4. So funny! I am positive my hubs would respond about the same if I threw some "design" words at him...and the word tipsy! ;)

  5. This is my favorite fess up yet! so funny!! My husband hasn't got a clue what I'm talking about most of the time. I know I'm going too far when I see his eyes glazing over. Luckily he supports my obsession even if he doesn't always get it. It's obvious you have a supportive hubby too, and what a great sport to fess up to all of us!

  10. Very funny! When I start talking "design stuff" often my husband looks at me like I have three heads...I don't think they'll ever get us!

  12. Mixin' drinks...didn't Luke work at Peggy's - the only thing they had on tap was Old Style!

Loved this post and know that I will be catching up on your makeovers as we just went into escrow today and will hopefully be homeowners in NorCal real soon.

    Miss you guys!!!!

  14. AHAHAHAHA! Oh my god, this is just so brilliant. And yes, we have exactly the same kind of thing going on in my house (except I'm definitely the cocktail maker as I was a bartender myself long ago) ;) And thank god, really, because if he had an opinion about design, it would make things SO much harder so ya know, silver lining and all that ;) xxx

  18. Hilarious! My husband lives in a house full of women and he's got no clue. When I say hey lets get MDF and do a pattern on our master bedroom wall or picture frame it up - he's like whaaat? put picture frames on the wall? won't that look silly? When my girls talk about dresses or make up he tries he really does but when they walk away he just looks at me and I start explaining.... poor man.

  19. Oh my god, I am crying in hysterics. Luke, you are definitely not alone--my husband looks like a deer in headlights when I get too "design-y" in my conversations with him.

  20. That is hilarious! Food dogs might be my fav :D My husband never understands what I'm talking about when I bring up house things. But for that matter, I have no idea what he's talking about when he starts in on work. I guess we both just nod along until it gets way too over our heads!

  21. Ha...I love it!! My hubby can totally relate!

  22. I didn't want to believe it but men are very different from women. I found as long as you feed them, give them a glass or two of the favorite adult beverage, they'll go with you almost anywhere. Do not, however, ask them to recall any of the great conversation you thought the two of you shared about color or patterns or furniture style (except for price tags). My husband calls me highly verbal. Sometimes he winces when he says this. The man who took calculus for fun marvels at my ability to "guesstimate". I do numbers in my head and he deals with highly complex calculations. I always do the tip in my head when we eat out. He does the income taxes. Now that I'm retired, he makes the money and I spend it. It does get better!!!

  23. This is hilarious!!! I love the series of hand pictures.
My significant other does an okay job of following along, but doesn't know what I'm talking about a majority of the time. Luckily he is always encouraging me and will come up with feedback and constructive criticism so I can be pointed in the right direction.

  24. LOL!!! Okay, I just found this am I'm literally laughing out loud! Sounds just like my husband when it comes to design chin-o-say-what!!!!???? Also, my husband was a bartender in college as well and my friends used to send me to buy all the drinks...hoping to get a free one. Love it!!! :)
