industrial sleepover

I've been in need of a new bedside table. The one I used in my bedroom reveal was on loan from my daughters' playroom. Turns out, they didn't think it was as wonderful next to my bed as I did. So back downstairs it went and the hunt was on.

At least though I knew what to look for because that table taught me I need more space. I don't know about you, but I keep a lot of crap important stuff by my bed and as dreamy (ha, no pun intended) as cleaning off my night stand on a regular basis sounds, it's not happening.

So more storage was needed. But also, I wanted something different. Something certainly different than anything I had. Nothing that screamed 'hello, I'm a bed side table. Won't you lie down?'

A tall order but nothing I can't find after a little digging. And right around my birthday, this table was found at a local shop, by the same name actually - found. Happy Birthday to me! It had plenty of storage and an industrial/vintage feel. This sucker can take a beating. Not that I'm particularly abusive with my furniture, but you know.

Getting this table for my birthday ment I've had it since July. So why haven't I posted about it until now? Because I wanted to live with it for a while. See how I liked it and get a feel for what I would want to do to it, if anything. I was waiting for my table to talk to me.

And now that I've lived with it I'm thinking I want to fresh it up just a bit. Specifically its color.

Ever since I picked up this orange greek key tray in Florida, I'm thinking orange might be the way to go. Pretty surprising I know since we all know my fears about orange. I must be growing. Or drunk.

So, what say you? Know of any good orange spray paint colors? I've got to have spray paint - can you imagine brushing this sucker? Any other color ideas?

  5. I was going to say orange!!! I've heard Montana spray paint has good colors...try an art store, like Dick Blick or Coldsnow Creative. Orange with all the blue will look fabulous!!

  6. Cute cart. I like it as a bedside table since it has the extra shelf for storage. You know me, I'm a total chicken when it comes to colour. I'd probably paint it neutral or black or something equally boring. But YOU aren't afraid of colour. SO you should totally paint it orange. AND get drunk while you're painting. Cause that makes it more fun and allows for a more even application...

  7. Love the industrial rustic look of your side table/cart. I like the idea of painting it orange. I added orange accents to my guest room too! I like the muted tones of Krylon-Terra Cotta or Rustoleum-Cinnamon. Good Luck!

  8. I think orange is the perfect color for your cart/bedside table! I love all of the storage you have and the vintage detailing. I have never painted with orange spray paint, I wish I had a recommendation for you.

  9. Great cart - I love how you have it styled too. Oh and my bedside table is always covered in crap. I finally got one with a drawer and a door, so at least now I have a place to stuff it all haha. And orange would be so fun. The nice part about spraypaint is that it's not a huge deal to chance it later if you grow tired of the colour!

  10. Best bedside table EVER!! I love that you used an industrial cart instead of the expected side table. It will be FAB in orange!! Way to be fearless!! I can't wait to see it when it's done!

  11. I am totally in love with industrial accents! I think they make traditional decor all the more exciting and fresh. Orange is a great idea! I agree with the poster above about trying to find a color that matches the Hermes orange. Can't wait to see how it turns out!

  13. First, I should congratulate you for accepting the fact that darling little nightstands are not functional for most of us. Not cleaning it every 5 minutes.. hooray!
If you think orange is bit much why not go with pink or pale turquoise and add an orange accent to see how it feels.
PS thanks a bunch for the kind comments over on Pink Pagoda.

  14. What a great table! I love the mix of metal in that space. And orange! That is going to be gorgeous. I remember you saying you had a fear of orange so way to conquer that one--don't they call that immersion therapy or something? I do love orange and turquoise together...

  15. I immediately thought orange while I was reading. With the blue behind it, it would be a nice combination. Don't they only have safety orange spray paints or am I just looking in the wrong place?
