make new friends but keep the old

...one is silver and the other gold. If I knew why that song was in my head, I'd tell you. But I have no explanation  I've also got Flock Of Seagulls in my head so go figure.

I've been in a mixing mood lately. Maybe it's the crispy gold of fall, turning into the icy silver of winter (woah, can i get a holla for that line of poetry?) but I'm way into silver and gold. Living in harmony, just like ebony and ivory. The odd songs flow, what can I say.

I'm especially loving it in the kitchen. Which really is stainless and brass, but you get where I'm going with this.

Makes for a very glam kitchen. It works best, I think, when it's tempered and subtle but when it works right, it is oh so good.

So what do you think? Do you mix you metals? Do you mix your cocktails? Thank goodness for a short week ahead!

  1. Yes!! It is only a matter of time before gold is out, so why not let everyone play together. I don't have a song in my head at the moment....crickets.

  2. All of these kitchens are soooo gorgeous. I think that mixing metals is great when done properly, and if we had a reno going on I am sure I would find a way to mix metals in a kitchen reno, but in a way that would be easy to update when golds and such are once again "out" ;)

  4. Thanks for including our kitchen! I am a huge fan of mixing metals. I am very curious to see how it would affect our resale value. I have a feeling it would confuse some people.

  5. I love those pendant lights over the bar in the last photo. I have always been a silver girl but lately I've been drawn to gold accent pieces.

  6. I mix all the metals.....adds interest, as texture does......all the same can be very dull!!!

  7. I absolutely mix metals - especially love brass and chrome - or brass and that blackish bronze. Have a wonderful thanksgiving holiday, Elizabeth!

  8. Oooh, such great images you've gathered. I previously thought mixing metal tones was a no-no, but just like pairing black and navy--that old rule is over.

  9. Elizabeth! hi!

oh any of those kitchens would be very fine in my house. did you see my post on friday? see it, k. there are some pics regarding what my house looks like. it is a mid century modern but my kitchen inside looks like it is straight out of a mountain cabin = DON'T MIX.

right now my metals are crap of black gunmetal hammered lumpy style = i hate. sorry but i do. more money more money, honey and we are tearing the whole thing outtta there.

now you have an awesome evening ok.

  10. I mixed metals in my kitchen facelift and it looksgreat. We have stainless steel appliances and copper pendants and drawer pulls on the lower cabinets (upper cabinets knobs are clear). The copper really warms up the room and gives my 1960s rambler kitchen a little more patina, ya know?

I love mixing metals. I do it with jewelry too considering I am one of the few people who got married in the last 10 years and chose yellow gold rings so I'm always having to mix it up. Love doing it at home as well. Great kitchen pics, that first one with the open shelves is calling my name.

  12. Now I'm going to have that song in my head all night! I agree with you that mixing metals should be done carefully and in a restrained way in order to work. Have a great Thanksgiving!

  13. I love all your examples Elizabeth, I do love mixing metals, since silver/chrome is already all over my house, and I recently added the brass/gold stuff, it still looks cohesive over all. Just like the picture you've shown. :-)

Hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving!

  15. My kitchen is the only place in my home that hasn't gotten the gold treatment and I keep wondering if I should mix it in with all the stainless steel in there... but I absolutely LOVE these examples! I reckon W might kill me however if I start changing it when we've not even finished it yet. Hmmm. One for the 'future projects' file ;) xxx
