Hey everybody! First off I want to thank you all for your sweet comments and emails about the living room. I'm so happy to have accomplished everything on my list. You'll notice that I didn't say the room is 'finished' as there is always more I want to do, but we won't go there today.
We had a great time with family in Chicago over the Thanksgiving holiday and I also got a chance to visit with some very good friends whom I don't get to see often enough.
Such a good time was had in fact, that it made me think about Christmas cards. Well, the visit and the fact that every other car we passed on Sunday had a christmas tree on the roof.
Last year I didn't send out Christmas/holiday cards (gasp) and I have to tell you, if felt pretty damn good. It was on my list, but I simply just ran out of time. But after the initial guilt wore off, it was rather nice to have one less thing to feel obligated to during this crazy time of year.
Big but though, I LOVE getting Christmas cards. I'm an enigma I know. I love seeing how much everyone's kids have grown (even though I see all of that already thru Facebook) and I'm thrilled to get something in the mail that isn't a bill or a solicitation. And, they are just so damn cute!

So, what do you think? Are you sending out holiday cards this year? Are they necessary in our social media world where we know all of everyone's everything? Do you have a method or place to get them from that removes the stress? Do I need to save you a seat next to me in 'I didn't send out Christmas cards' hell?
I ordered mine over the weekend. I don't think they are necessary but I love getting them.
ReplyDeleteEach year we receive less! I remember "in the good ole days" the USPO delivered mail twice a day.....so many cards! Today?
ReplyDeleteLast year and I guess this, I will send cards to family and friends who are up on computer's etc. Yes, there are a few out there! My little blog has filled my friends and family with "overloads" of pictures and info on MC and me!!!
Just ordered my today. I am even having them mailed from the source - uploaded addresses and all. Was so easy. I love getting them....
ReplyDeleteI love getting Christmas cards! This is only time of year that I actually look forward to getting the mail.
ReplyDeleteI didn't send cards for many years. Last year I sent then and it felt so good to let people know I was thinking of them. I do love when I receive cards with picture or a quick note.
ReplyDeleteThanks for reminding me! I had planned on getting a picture over the Thanksgiving weekend while my oldest was home...but did not! I did take a year off once, and like you, it was wonderful not having to worry about it. Not yet sure about this year. Perhaps you can remind me again in a couple of weeks...:)
ReplyDeleteWe send them. I could care less, but my husband likes it. Just a picture of the kids and the dog....NO ADULTS. Please people, we do not get better looking each year.
ReplyDeleteMaybe I'm old-fashioned for 28, but I love sending and receiving Christmas cards. It makes me smile everyday when I see a few in my mailbox. I picked up some boxes of cute letterpressed cards at Homegoods for a bargain price, so I have no excuse not to send them!
ReplyDeleteI didn't send them last year and loved it, too! I think I may skip again in fact. I do love to receive them, though!
ReplyDeletei love sending and receiving christmas cards, and the more homey and handmade the better.
ReplyDeleteon the other hand, i totally reserve the right to send my cards late...several times, i've sent them in mid-january, and once it was july. guess what. no one complains.
once or twice, i've skipped a year. the world has not ended, though i've gotten a few tentative "is everything ok?" emails after the no-shows. it seems that nothing spells divorce, disease or death in the family like skipping your christmas cards, so i try not to send false messages.
the holidays get so hectic that a few years ago I started sending "new years' cards. it took the stress off of getting them out by xmas. And I must admit, one year I sent 'happy valentine's day' cards. haha. I mean the card itself was decorated as valentines and it had photos of the kids and a little blurb about what we'd been up to the previous year. Just as a xmas card would. only in feb.
ReplyDeleteOne of my secret pet peeves became that I used to spend so much time hand writing a special note onto every single card I send to people and then I'd receive a card with no note or signature or anything from people. It's still special that they think to send me a card, I know. But it just bothered me that I would spend sooo much time. haha. so my solution...don't send them at all! This year...no cards for me unless i send them after the new year again.
I have never really sent out cards en masse. I send some to special friends with a little note. There is just something about sending or receiving a real card instead of an email or note on Facebook. Mine are not always sent by Christmas--sometimes they are not even Christmas, but thinking-of-you cards.
ReplyDeleteMost people have become so busy, I think they understand if you don't send out cards
I love sending and receiving Christmas Cards...in fact, I love sending mail. I still write thank you notes and "thinking of you" cards. You never know when a simple heartfelt note will make someone's day :)
