An image popped up on my
Pinterest feed the other day that made me misty for one of my favorite defunct magazines - Cottage Living. For four years - 2004 - 2008 Cottage Living gave me pages and pages of inspiration and I miss the magazine dearly. Some of these images are 10 years old and they still look amazing.
I often wish they would bring this sucker back. Thank god for Pinterest and old issues that I never threw away. Do you have any magazines that you miss? Do you like the new Domino? Do you wish you had a new magazine for each week of the month? I know I do.
Timeless and gorgeous designs. Love that
ReplyDeleteIn my purging mode, I am going through stacks of Elle Decor. Sice 45 inches of snow is coming tomorrow, I should be able to plow my way through those. Thank goodness House of Cards does not dome out until Friday. That would take precedence. .
ReplyDeleteThe room in 3rd image is a personal--so much so that I have 3-4 images of the room from different vantage points pinned on Pinterest. I never knew of/read Cottage Living when it was originally published but I'm realizing I was late to the party. Sorry to have missed it.
ReplyDeleteI actually haven't spent much time looking over the new Domino. I'll be honest and say I don't love their new format/website--it seems like an obvious excuse to sell things rather than to produce inspiring ideas.
Cottage Living was my favorite ever! I still have a stack that I kept that I look at from time to time. I seriously always thought they would start publishing again.

Like Ashely, I never read Cottage Living when it was being published (I hadn't even developed my passion for decorating at that point) but from all the images you show, it looks amazing. One of my favorites now is Country Living - it's hit or miss but they've had some great issues.
ReplyDeletei miss it, too!!!!! come back cottage living.... come back to me....
ReplyDeleteI miss it too. Your post makes me want to thumb through my old issues.
ReplyDeleteI loved that one too, and I'm struggling for magazine inspiration lately - Nothing has been striking me, even my tried and true... boohoo, woe is me.
ReplyDeletePretty images!! I had never heard of this magazine! Things stay alive and well thanks to pinterest....but I do wish the digital magazines were physical...I just love flipping thru pages.
ReplyDeleteI can see why you miss this one Elizabeth, what I miss really is BLUERPINT - that Martha Living spin-off ?! Miss that one bad, still have all my issues intact!
ReplyDeleteI'm with you. Cottage Living was one of my favorites. Every room you posted still looks great.
ReplyDeleteit's such a shame that great magazine go out of print... they had beautiful ideas!
ReplyDeleteI completely agree with you! In fact, I miss it more than Domino. I love Tyler Colgan's home and wish I could see more of her work. Thanks for the trip down memory lane!!
ReplyDeleteOh how I miss it too! I have quite a few old pages I ripped out for inspiration. That second picture you posted is from my dream house! I kept that whole issue all these years.
ReplyDeleteI miss Cottage Living, too. And of course, Domino. The new Domino feels like recycled material with the way the blogosphere and Pinterest have progressed.
ReplyDeleteNot a fan of the new Domino. So sad because I really liked the old one! I felt the old version offered more practical choices. Those images from Cottage Living certainly do have staying power. Ikat pillows even back then! I don't think any of the rooms look "safe" either - which shows that classic doesn't have to mean boring.
ReplyDeleteI love Pinterest, and have never seen domino.
ReplyDeleteThe magazine I miss the most (and yes it still exists but I mean in terms of quality) was how Architectural Digest used to be so ad-free. Now it's mostly ads and not anywhere near as interesting. Just like the debacle with 'Gourmet' magazine.
I was shocked to find out with AD that you have to pay a $25,000 dollar submittal fee just to SEE if MAYBE they will choose your home - and that doesn't even guarantee it.
The images you chose from Cottage Living are timeless - they still look fresh even though it's ten years later - THAT was a great interior designer's work on those pages!
I loved it too, Elizabeth! That and Southern Accents. Never have understood what closes the chapter on one, and leaves others alive and kicking.

I must have been living in a hole somewhere (or in school my entire life) to have missed such a great magazine. Yes, thank goodness for Pinterest!
ReplyDeleteOh, I miss it too! There was one feature that I loved and I think I still have the tear sheets from the story somewhere. Need to see if I can find it online. All I remember is that it was a blended family that lived in Birmingham. I was enamored. Ah, memories!
ReplyDeleteI only read a few issues of this magazine, but I bet it would come back if there are enough people that would want it back. Maybe you could be the new editor! You would be perfect! Thanks for the inspiring images- they are timeless!
ReplyDeleteI have EVERY issue of Cottage Living in my collection! It was a FAV! The design is timeless and those images are some of the most popular on Pinterest!

I miss it too! I still have a file folder full of pages torn from that magazine. It was so inspiring!
ReplyDeleteI love that all these images still look current, can't beat pretty, timeless decor.
ReplyDeleteI miss it like CRAZY. I have ALL of those magazines you've showed, kept in a safe place. That kitchen tile was insane, and that pregnant decorator in Birmingham... her entire house, to die for!!
ReplyDeleteSo much beautiful inspiration!
ReplyDeleteI never read Cottage Living, but I wish I had. From the looks of it, it was a good one. I do notice myself reaching for Cottage Style or Cottage Kitchen or anything cottage related when Im on the hunt for a good read though.
ReplyDeleteLove the first cottage living image, such a pretty room! Love a cozy space thats still chic! Gret inspiration image!

Miss Cottage Living so much. Have every back issue and threatened to cut off my hubsters fingers if he ever tries to throw them away. Loved seeing the handiwork of Heather Chadduck, Fran Keenan, and Anne Turner Carroll to name only a few of the great talents that worked for CL not to mention the lovely homes featured. Lindsay Bierman has wisely corralled some of that talent under the SL umbrella. But still not the same.
ReplyDeleteI almost threw mine out not too long ago but I happen to open one up and spent a couple of hours looking at them! So of course I still have them!
ReplyDeleteCottage Living was my absolute favorite mag!! I sadly parted with my old issues last year since my decorating mags were taking over my house :). That was one great magazine!
