Black is having a big moment lately. Well, let's be real, black is never NOT having a moment in one form or another but right now it is large and in charge. Black bedrooms, dining rooms, bathrooms, even kitchens have everyone's toes all curled with excitement.
And this is all for good reason. It is no secret that black is the basis of all good things. Fashion and interiors always encourage adding a bit of black here and there. It helps to balance out an outfit or a room and it looks great with everything. When in doubt add black, right?
So why then don't we see more black when it comes to exteriors? Black (or dark grey/blue) makes the landscape pop and gives a very clean (ironic I know) and crisp look that I love big time.
I grew up in a black (cedar shake) house and I'm starting to crave that look again.
Would you go black outside? What's your favorite exterior color? Could I love anything more than a stained black fence? (the answer is no)
I am a HUGE lover of black ... and these exterior shots just sealed the deal! Gorgeous! xo
ReplyDeletei have a bunch of these pinned, too! love the black exeriors- i think where we live it might look odd or i would do it!!!
ReplyDeleteLove all of these photos!! I am a black junkie :) The only issue I might have with it would be maintenance, but I am crazy about the look!
ReplyDeleteFabulous! I am loving it right now too but I wonder how long it will last? Who knows, I'm just enjoying the heck out of this moment. xo Nancy
ReplyDeleteYou definitely don't see enough black exteriors! Love your roundup. I especially like the black lattice garden, so chic.
ReplyDeleteI love, love it. It is a very chic look...and I love it with the crisp white trim.
ReplyDeleteLove, love, love!! I think you should definitely do it!
ReplyDeleteI love black exteriors - it's such a classic look that I don't think I'll ever tire of!
ReplyDeleteI have always loved black. My mother was appalled and said I had the rest of my life to wear black...and so I have. Love black in the garden, on exteriors, and interiors. I lived with an all white downstairs (by choice) for over 25 years. However, in this remodel/do over we're going BLACK! Bead board in Benjamine Moore Advance has enough shine to bounce light. Art looks fab on black. My conservative neighbors think I've gone goth. Who cares.
ReplyDeleteThese are gorgeous examples!! I am a big big fan of black exteriors. There is a new bistro in town that blew me away because the exterior is very dark, but I'm afraid it will take some persuading to get my other half to go along with such a scheme for our house.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous photos! I love black inside and out. I also wear it as a wardrobe staple. (My hubs always teases when I buy something new. Surprise, another black outfit!) Thanks for sharing all of these elegant exteriors.
ReplyDeleteIf I have to choose a color other than white, it's black. Love all the photos you used. I'm hoping to stain our fence black this summer.
ReplyDeleteI love the photos that you shared!! This may sound weirdo but we had a contractor tell us not to use black shingles on our roof because it attracts and holds in the heat. I wonder if that would be an issue with a black exterior.
ReplyDeleteI love the black exteriors! I'm all about the color black so I love seeing them all over the place.
ReplyDeleteI follow a ton of Scandinavian blogs and I feel like I this is something they do often and well. I'm wondering too if it is a way to attract heat to their houses during their long winters.
ReplyDeleteLove this! I did a post on pink houses today, but now you've got me drooling over black!
ReplyDeleteYES!!!!!!!!! It's things like this that make me wish I would have been able to buy in a charming, old neighborhood that doesn't make you stick to preselected exterior colors. So cool!!!!!
ReplyDeleteI once read that every room should have at least one black piece of furniture...now I think every street should have at least one black house! Lovely photos. Black exterior is beautiful when done right!
ReplyDeleteI love black! Did you ever play The Sims? Every house I ever made was black and my siblings thought I was nuts. BUT, I can't imagine how a black exterior would weather (would fading be a big issue?) and also I think it would look dirty so quickly. I would think you'd have to power wash it a few times a year and paint much more often, so I don't know that I'd be down for having a black house, unless I could easily afford to pay others to do those things. :)
ReplyDeleteLove homes painted black! That second home is in my old neighborhood in SF. It was my favorite because it was painted black. They were in process of gut renovating it when we moved. I wonder if they kept the exterior black
ReplyDeleteNow you know how much I love a black room!! Im not so sure about a truely black exterior though. We do, however, plan on painting our house a moody charcoal. Does that count? Love the inspiration pics.
ReplyDeleteGAH gorgeous examples! I saw Kirstin's back garden makeover on The Hunted Interior and I was drooling all over the place with her chic black and white space and immediately hated my colourful 'teens having a party' scheme and wanted to do it all over again. I've actually been considering painting my shed black... It just looks so damn chic!! Love it. xxx
ReplyDeleteYes to black! I recently saw that designer Lauren Liess painted the exterior of her house black and just loved it!
ReplyDeleteI totally now want a black house! Especially with the crisp white trim!
ReplyDeleteThe 2nd house is awesome!!! And I usually prefer historic homes painted in multiple colors.
ReplyDeleteI actually write blog post about wishing I were brave enough to paint my fence black, it has been on my radar for several years. Maybe someday I will bit the bullet and go for it. I am also loving darker walls, but my home is light and bright so it would not work here, but also on my someday list. Black with all white is so stunning.
ReplyDeleteI would do black trim, but I would worry that an all black exterior would 1) fade and look crummy; 2) hold too much heat in the summer time.
ReplyDeleteWhat would be BEST would be if the neighbors across the street would do a gorgeous black house so I could just look at it all day. :-)
