Welcome to the long weekend my friends! Today I'm joining several blog friends to talk about different ways to give your living room a refresh without spending the earth. And if you are anything like me, with a happy spring holiday weekend ahead, a bit of time fluffing a busy room in my house sounds like a great way to unwind! (I know, I'm weird)
I wanted to think a bit outside the blogger box and share something that absolutely anyone could do. Something that would give you a big change for ZERO dollars. That's right, no money spent and no DIY necessary. How's that for a budget buster?!
My advice is to turn on some great music, make yourself a good drink, give your arms and legs a quick stretch and then start moving furniture. Instead of buying something new, or even rushing to paint, just try moving that chair out of the corner. Switch the sofa to the other wall. Bring a table in from another room and put a lamp on it to brighten up a dead space. It is amazing to me how different a room FEELS, let alone looks, by spending just a bit of time shuffling everything up.
And the best part is, if it doesn't work, just move it again. No harm and no money lost. Just keep shuffling until it feels right. You'll find a new life given to your room, and a desire to actual spend time in there again.
Be sure to check out the other wonderful bloggers sharing their tips today, and thanks so much to Mary Ann and Cindy for asking me to join in.
When was the last time you gave your room a new layout? What would you move around in your living room? Remember, lift with your knees and don't spill your drink!
I can't agree with you more! Love, love, love your living room Elizabeth!
ReplyDeleteSuch a great tip! Sometimes we don't think of the obvious!! We were thinking alike! Sometimes I find in my own home if I invite a friend over put two heads together...it is amazing what we can come up with!!
ReplyDeleteP.S Thank you so much for joining us Elizabeth your living room is full of fun! I adore it!
ReplyDeleteThis is fantastic advice, and right up my alley since I am cheap and have a love/hate relationship with DIY. Plus your room is so gorgeous!!! I love all the blue! If I could do anything, I'd flip our whole living room arrangement so the couch was on the opposite, far wall. I'm also digging the h-arrangement lately with chairs or a couch or even footstools in front of a TV.
ReplyDeleteGreat tip! I live with a person who uses a power wheel chair, and the house isn't so big. The furniture pretty much has to stay put to leave room for the wheelie to get from point A to point B. However, I can (and do!) swap one chair or table for another, change the pillow covers, and "adjust" the bookshelves when I need a change. Drives my family crazy, but I like turning the books around backwards for a less cluttered look.
ReplyDeleteGreat tips! Really love the zero dollar concept!!! I need to move more of my furniture around!!!
ReplyDeleteYou are definitely speaking my language. Nothing stays in one place long at my house. Your living room is so pretty...I could see relaxing in there with you! Love your arm chairs. Great pattern mix. Thanks for the no cost advice and being a part of Project Design.
ReplyDeleteCompletely agree, moving furniture / artwork and all the pretty around totally gives a room a new fresh vibe
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun and happy space! And like how the colors nod to the patriotic.....fab for this weekend!
ReplyDeleteI like how you think and need to do this very thing. I'll make the gin & tonics & you come help me move stuff around, okay? Glad you're back blogging. Happy weekend!
ReplyDeleteP.S. Love your colors!
Your room is bright and vibrant. I love all the colors and patterns. I agree with you about shuffling things around. My house has such a different feel after a little rearranging!
ReplyDeleteLove this! I also came up with the idea of rearranging your furniture but clearly left out the important parts of the drink and the music :) xx Sharon
ReplyDeleteTotally agree with this - love moving things around (although it's normally smaller accessories and artwork in my case, there's only so many places I can put furniture in my petite home!) ;) And while red/white/blue wouldn't normally be a palette I would use, I absolutely LOVE it in your living room - how did you make me love it suddenly?! You're a white witch. There. I'm convinced now. xxx
ReplyDeleteIt has been a while since I have moved things around in my place. Probably because I have lived here 20 years and after all of those years of moving I found the best placement for everything! Now what I need to do is fluff up the accessories a little.....it has been way too long:) Love your home by the way!
ReplyDeleteDarling post! I do the same thing and my family used to say they never knew where to sit since I mov d the furniture so often. Have a great weekend . Xo Nancy
ReplyDeleteThis makes me smile, I grew up shifting furniture and now my kids are following suit! My Dad used to come home from a business trip and had to turn on the lights if it was late so he'd know where the furniture was!!! Happy Memorial Day!!
ReplyDeletemy favorite past time! it's my favorite thing to do...I call it shopping my house! great tip.
ReplyDeleteI just love seeing pictures of your home - it is so beautiful and fun! And how right you are about moving furniture! My old next door neighbor and I used to come over to each other's houses all of the time and give each other advice on furniture swapping using a fresh eye - I miss that!
ReplyDeletelove, love, love what you did!! I'm so scared of moving and rearranging but you are so right....you don't love anything and have plenty to gain! These photos are amazing!
ReplyDeleteElizabeth, I love your tip(s)!!! I think there are actually a bunch of tips here - music, a fun drink, a good stretch and an open mind might help us to see what we already have in a new way. Your living room is so fun and pretty. Love your eclectic and colorful touch to a room!
ReplyDeleteI just love your living room and I love your tips. Anything involving music and a drink comes along with great ideas ;)
ReplyDeleteOh, heck ya! That's how to do it when the pocket book needs a break ;) I'm right there with you. xo
ReplyDeleteYou had me at spending no money. Ha. I'm a big fan of shuffling around furniture. You're right, if you don't like it, move it back.
