what shelter magazines do you read

It was clear from the comments on yesterday's post that we are all in need of some fresh new magazines.

We all know the classics, House Beautiful, Elle Decor, House and Home etc. But what else is there?

So let's share. What magazines do you read and love? And how do digital magazines fit into your month? Do you love them as much as 'the real thing'?

Spill it.

  1. Country Living, Ideal Home (from England), HGTV (although not a huge fan), House Beautiful and sometimes Country Home (from England). All actual magazines (not digital).

  2. I was a big fan of HGTV magazine when it first cam out, but now it's just the same stuff over and over. I also subscribe to Country Living, BHG, House Beautiful, Elle Decor and Architectural Digest.

  3. I am so curious. I don't subscribe to any glossies anymore. I think the few I did get got lost in one of our many moves over the last few years. I do read the circuit at my mom's house pretty regularly. Surprisingly, country living and BHG are my favorites even though House Beautiful is more my style.

  4. I enjoy Verandah and Luxe, but except for picking them up occasionally at the bookstore, don't really read magazines much anymore. Blogs, Pinterest and Houzz get my attention instead!

  5. I love BHG and HGTV in digital. BHG has great bonus features with their digital version and the color quality is amazing on IPad. I also always reach for Dwell, Small Space Decorating, Sunset, House & Home, This Old House, House Beautiful, Real Simple, and surprising, Country Living. My style isn't "country" per se but they tend to feature smaller homes so Its a good read. I also really like the quarterly BHG special interest publications that come out, too. And every now and then I'll pick up Flea Market Style. We also get one in Barnes & Noble every once in a while that dedicated to craftsman architecture and I love it.

  6. veranda and HGTV and AD, and when I go abroad I love the European versions. I always forget to look at the online ones. I kind of cover them in a binge...where I will spend 30 min and I go thru all of them.

  7. My favorites Coastal Living, House Beautifful, Country Living and BHG. I get digital when they are free with my regular subscription but I need the "real" paper version for some reason.

  8. My subscriptions getting fewer and fewer! Overall, Veranda is my favorite! I also enjoy Atlanta Homes & Lifestyles and Traditional Home. I'm letting my subscriptions to House Beautiful run it's course and not renewing. I do not like the digital isues of any of them. I like to browse and take in all the rooms in the magazines themselves. Magazines I no longer receive, AD and ElDecor.
I have saved most of my Verandas, Atlanta Homes & Lifestyles and Traditional Homes. They are great for looking at and getting ideas. It's amazing how you can open up an old issue and see it in new light!

  9. I don't like digital versions as well as the paper. I love a hot bath and my mags. I get Elle Decor and House Beautiful currently. I rotate around each year. I love Arch.Digest, too. I read Lonny online. I wish I could get them all but I can't seem to throw the issues away, hence a problem going on..... xo Nancy

  10. I've really been loving the int'l shelter mags on my iPad. Based on the covers I'll limit myself to 2/3 per month so I don't go crazy with the subscriptions...Vogue AU/ AD India/ ID China/ Surface Asia/ Nuevo Estilo...I love the global perspective since all the domestic blogs are saturated with local faves. Mine included, but it's nice to see the change of pace everywhere else. Great topic!

  11. My favourite in terms of real-life magazines are Living Etc (UK) and Elle Decor (UK) is pretty good too. My favourite digital is still probably Lonny although it's not as good since Michelle Adams left. I think Rue is getting better and better though so that's a plus. I was looking forward to Domino in it's digital form (because I admired it from afar, not being able to get it in the UK when it was out originally) but I'll be honest, I feel like they rehash stuff even *I've* seen before over and over again and the whole selling thing just leaves a bad impression. Oh I do like the digital magazine called Adore (Australian) - there's always lots of gorgeous stuff in that. :) xx

  12. I have been reading Southern Living and Cooks Illustrated for many years, and I just added Fine Cooking to my subscription list. I do pick up a Veranda or Coastal Living every now and then. I find myself looking at Houzz for decorating ideas more than the decorating magazines these days. My subscriptions come with free electronic copies so I don't have to save the actual magazine after I read it, but I can still bookmark the articles and recipes that I want to save.

  17. My two favorites are House Beautiful and House & Home. HB just always gets it right, and I love that some of "The Best" products that they've been featuring lately have been approachable, affordable finds. I also really enjoy their interview format for their featured spreads. I also think that HB has done a great job embracing blogs. House & Home has great content and never leaves me bored. Then there are magazines that I don't describe to but I love to pick up when I'm at the bookstore: New England Home, Veranda, AD. I actually just started recycling some older magazines but I've held on to all of my HB's. :)

  18. Besides the ones you noted, I love Dwell, Livingetc, Insideout, Belle, AD, and I just realized that I might have a mag problem because I could list more. Love Adore Home, Rue for digital. However, I definitely prefer the real thing.

  19. I have trimmed the magazine fat and I'm down to only Elle Decor, House Beautiful, Veranda and Traditional Home, because my mom gave me a subscription. I don't have the time to read online mags and I think its because I prefer to hold those glossy pages in my hand.
