I've got a piece of furniture begging for a paint job. It's true. It told me it wanted to be painted. In a heavy Scottish accent oddly enough. So it's very possible I misunderstood, but I'm certain he said he wanted to be navy.
Happy to oblige Scottish furniture, but the problem is there are no fewer than 10,000 different paint colors claiming to be navy. You may remember I've had navy paint problems in the past, so I'm still rather nervous about making another navy pick.
There is after all a fine line between "that's a really dark royal blue" and "is that black...or blue". I'm going for "hot damn that is one fine piece of navy furniture!".
Something like this...

Do you have a color you can never seem to get right? Have any talking furniture? For more furniture ideas see my Pinterest board.
i have used symphony blue by ben moore on some tables before and it was GORGEOUS. we did glossy on those and it was pretty! i have also used general finishes coastal blue and am a huge fan of that as well!
ReplyDeleteNatty posted that she used BM "Old Navy". I have too many half full, quarts of paint in my garage to answer that question. For me, it feels like the only way to get the right color is to paint it once with the wrong color. That formula always works for me.
ReplyDeleteHa, this is ALWAYS my method too!
DeleteSorry to say I don't have a good navy - but I can't wait to see what you come up with! I love navy along with this years color - emerald green.
ReplyDeleteI'm on the hunt for a good navy paint so I'm going to come back and see what people suggest! It's kind of like gray- impossible to find the right one!
ReplyDeleteOoh, what is this piece of furniture you have in mind? Can't wait to see it all decked out in navy.
ReplyDeleteNavy is tough...I have a boy's room full of dark royal blue to prove it :( Sounds like you have some good options now though!
ReplyDeleteHmm...I'm wondering if I have one, I'll have to check what I used on my bookcase but I'm worried it might be darker than what you want. I'll email you with the name when I get off my lazy arss and look for it...

ReplyDeleteEmily Henderson is pretty much the queen of navy blue. I remembered this post she did quite some time ago, its a good one!! http://www.stylebyemilyhenderson.com/blog/best-navy-blue-paint-inspired-by-robert-pattinson.html
ReplyDeleteMy dear Elizabeth, I am going to go to Pinterest promptly after publishing this comment and following you there. I in-turn would thus soulfully appreciate you doing likewise.
ReplyDeleteFor some stupid and silly reason I was speaking as a Fox Hunter would just now, I think, I was anyway.
I haven't ever painted in Navy. Personally I love the bottom photo that is shiny dark blue. That's my vote. Like the Guess jeans I posted last Friday, those suckers are dark. They look black but they are very dark blue. They are so dark that when I wear them my finger tips get dark like ink on them, Ya!
I know nothing of navy blue unfortunately but man, I am falling in love with it daily. That's totally not helping, I realise, but I figured I'd mention it anyway. Actually, even if I had painted something perfect navy, I'm not sure that the exact paint colour would be available in the US. So, I'm going to try to make sure my response isn't just completely and utterly redundant by saying that I loved the navy blue that Emily Henderson (another shout out for her) used in her office: http://www.stylebyemilyhenderson.com/blog/my-new-office.html Yum yum.
ReplyDeleteAlso, did you see her recent office makeover? For Realz. It's amazeballs. (no I don't talk like that in real life but STILL.)
Ok, I'll shuddup now. Peace out baby and good luck xxx
This sounds like a job for Ralph Lauren paint :) That collection is sure to have what you are looking for!
ReplyDeleteI have been out of the blog loop for too long. So happy this was one of my first reads upon my return. Love, love, love the idea of you and your beagle in search of the perfect Scottish navy, lol. I have no doubt you'll find it.
ReplyDeleteWow. Love that navy on the qua trefoil (sp?) table! Navy paint in high gloss is so gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteHappy Saturday!! Whitley

I don't have a suggestion for you have thought about giving BM's Hale Navy a go. But I hope you will post the perfect navy when you do find it - so I can steal it! Good luck!

I think it's been mentioned but I've used BM Hale Navy and it's really nice!
ReplyDeleteI'm Pinning this! My spring to do list has a couple pieces of furniture that I need to paint navy. Such a tricky color.
ReplyDeleteOooo love navy! Like a few others, I'll be checking here to see the suggestions but I'm afraid I don't have any of my own. Oh, and like others, I also love Emily Henderson and her love of navy ;)
ReplyDeleteDecember Eve - Behr. Searched high and low. Very happy with the results. It's rich and not too blue and looks great in all light.
ReplyDeleteI like Sherwin Williams 6244 Naval. I used it on my son's dresser recently.
ReplyDeleteI like Gentlemans Gray, but it kinda has green in it. But I also like Old Navy and Hale Navy. All of them are Benjamin Moore BTW :)
ReplyDeletewe just painted the dining room RLauren Rue Royale and it's a gorgeous color in gloss! Not sure if it will be too bright for what you're looking for, but might be worth checking out. Best of luck! Choosing colors is haaaaaaaaaard.
