I have ABSOLUTELY no firsthand knowledge to refer to, but I imagine they are easy to keep clean. Of the images you shared, I especially like when simple vessel sinks are paired with antique-looking tables or dressers. Then, the base takes center stage.
YES but not in a space that is used often. I think they're more for looks and a little function. We added one when we re-did the guest bathroom but in the master bath that we use everyday we have the regular sinks. I have the vessel sink renovation on my blog if you're interested in looking. The post is called Cherry Blossom Sink Inspired Bathroom. Have a great day!
I have no practical knowledge, but I think they're a fad and don't age well. I don't mind the low profile vessels, like one of your photos, but I'm just not a fan of the HUGE bowls that scream "look at me, I'm hip and uber popular, but you'll hate me in 5 years."
I say YES! I love the look of photo #2...and the sconces in photo #1...to die for! Lastly...if it is good enough for Sarah Richardson...say no more. Love her style!
I don't like them. Every new built house you go in has them. I agree that they are too much a fad. However, I like the sink in pic #2. I'm not sure I would call that a vessel sink.
I just ordered this one:http://www.amazon.com/Kohler-K-2660-8-0-Rectangle-Vessel-Faucet/dp/B004LGKGIA/?keywords=white+vessel+sink&qid=1377990019&ref=sr_1_54&ie=UTF8&sr=8-54
We haven't installed it yet but it is GORGEOUS and had great reviews!! It's really nice and big and much deeper than it looks like in the photo....so I'm not too worried about the water containment issue, although it's going on a laminate top and we have three boys 5 and under :) I'll let you know in a few weeks!
I love the way they look....in other people's homes. I agree with The Pink Pagoda - they're just awkward to me. I've stayed at hotels that had them and am not a fan - water was everywhere and I kept bumping into the sink. But hey - different strokes for different folks!
I've only ever used them in a guest bathroom. So basically washing hands and maybe brushing teeth. For that, totes-brill, who cares if it's trendy, it's a guest bathroom.
I splash water regardless, I don't think a sink could help me if they made one. I've learned to live with it.
Have one in our pool house - lovely to look at but be prepared for cleaning around it all the time! You see, most of them are pretty shallow, and with kids, splashing away is a big issue. We made a mistake of getting clear glass one and you can see watermarks around it all the time. Love looking at it, but if I re-do my master bath, won't be using these sinks for sure. :-)
Personally, I've moved past them. When I worked for a loft developer we did TONS, so I think I got burnt out. But honestly they leaked all of the time and the majority did not have plug options in the drain (something weird about code and potential with drowning) so not change of holding water. Not practical at all. Sorry :-(
Oh gosh... we have them in the master bath not by choice and I dislike them so very much....but it could just be the style we have. ANd when one of us is sick and we want to fill one of those plastic bottled bags with hot water we can never fill it up all the way because then the faucet is in the way.....so frustrating. Good topic! You are on a roll! xx
I've never had one so I can't speak to their practicality but I can say I'm not a fan of the look and I just can't imagine they would function as well as a traditional inset sink. Sorry. : (
I don't like how small they can be. My in-laws have one and I either have really big hands (they're kind of big) or that thing is small. They can be really beautiful and functional though!
I really like them but have heard from friends that they don't contain water well if they are used a lot face washing, teeth brushing etc. I've heard they are best used in powder rooms or low traffic bathrooms.
I've got one in the new bathroom remodel and love it but saying that, I did one in another bathroom remodel in a flat I used to have and hated it... so it just depends on which one you choose. The first was white and quite small in diameter and it was a bit of a struggle because, yes, water everywhere and then drainage wasn't great for some reason so it always looked dirty. My new one isn't quite as deep and it's wider and it's also black... and it works really well, no mess and surprisingly very easy to keep clean but I've got better drainage as well so the water goes down quickly :) So those are my 2 cents ;) xxx
What I love about these vessel sinks is how easy to clean them. Wether or not to have another vessel sink in our home? Im guessing this one out. Thanks though.

ReplyDeleteAre you contemplating one for your home?
No. No. And No. I don't like them.
ReplyDeleteI am actually not a fan. They seem awkward to me. Love the sconces in the first pic though!

I big emphatic YES! We have two in our master bathroom and love love love them! Now I can't use a regular sink to wash my face....
ReplyDeleteYES! i love them!

ReplyDeleteDebbie Downer here. NO NO NO. I'm imagining water everywhere. I think they're very awkward.

We had one in our Charlotte condo. We loved it. It was a breeze to care for. If I could have one again, I would.
ReplyDelete#2 where it is set low would work for me. Otherwise, no to the big bowls.

ReplyDeleteDon't have any but I love the look!

ReplyDeleteWe have one in our basement. I like the look of it but wouldn't want it for my sink unless it was a big one. I do think the look is color tho!

ReplyDeleteBig fat yes!!
ReplyDeleteMy husband mentioned once that those type of sinks look like urinals to him and I've never gotten over that....:)
ReplyDeleteI imagine water would be splashing everywhere, so no for me. I clean up enough as it is:-)
ReplyDeleteI don't like how small they can be. My in-laws have one and I either have really big hands (they're kind of big) or that thing is small. They can be really beautiful and functional though!
ReplyDeleteThe examples that you have shown are very pretty but I would not go there, not for anything.
ReplyDeleteNope!
ReplyDeleteI think they are great for low use bathrooms... but I wouldn't put them in a kids bathroom or a master! Great pics!
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely yes! Love these and your blog :) Happy Friday!
ReplyDeleteI really like them but have heard from friends that they don't contain water well if they are used a lot face washing, teeth brushing etc. I've heard they are best used in powder rooms or low traffic bathrooms.
ReplyDeleteI love the look but have never lived with one. So pretty!

ReplyDeleteLove a vessel sink I have never used one but would love to have in my home! There are so many incredible ones to choose from:)
ReplyDeleteI personally like them but yeah they have to work well.

ReplyDeleteI have seen a few I like, but generally no. Especially these new small ones. They are messy.
Happy Monday.
