Before we get to today's Fess Up, let me do a bit of fessing of my own and let you know that I'm over at The White Buffalo Styling Co. today talking about finding my style. Head over and check it out. But only after you here what the lovely Julia has to say.
Julia is from Cuckoo4Design and she is a creation queen. The projects and ideas that Julia comes up with blow my mind and she has more energy that anyone I know over the age of 10. She is an inspiration for sure and I'm so glad she's here today. So Julia, Fess Up!
Happy Friday everyone!
I'm Julia from Cuckoo4Design and I'm so excited, scared and nervous to be here today. Love reading this series but putting one of your own secrets out there is a little nerve wracking.
Everyone has something to hide, right? Or maybe not? Thanks Elizabeth for giving me the chance to come clean today ;)
Well I've got plenty of quirks and also a dirty little secret. Most people that read my blog already know that I hate feet and body hair or when someone chews loudly but I have something that I have never shared on my blog or with people coming to visit our home.
My readers and friends are used to seeing our home like this:
Clean and organized. I get the question all the time about how on earth I keep our home so clean and organized? People can usually ring our door bell and that's exactly what they find. A clean home.
Well my secret is this. And I actually can't believe that I'm sharing this with you. It's so embarrassing but I have a catch all room where I shove everything and anything out of sight.
It has many functions and there is even some system to the madness.
I'm squeezing my eyes shut while you are looking:
It's so dark and horrible down there. Yes it is my laundry/storage room and well yes those are even herbs drying in it.
The room gets cleaned out twice a year but ends up looking the same after a couple of weeks.
And the honest truth is that I need it. I have no plans of ever making this an amazing and stylish laundry room. It feels good having a place to shove something. It's all mine!
I might put a lock on it at some point though!
Gosh I look like a hoarder now and I'm ashamed of myself. My husband just told me that I'm ruining my blogging career with this post LOL.
I hope you still give my blog a chance after this confession and come and visit me sometimes by clicking HERE
I love it Julia! If anything, I think this will only make your blog stronger, real life always wins. What do y'all think? I know I have a spot (or three) in my house that look like this. What about you?
Oh my gosh it's so horrible seeing this out in the open for everyone to see. But it's still not making me clean it up ;) It's like having my own thrift shop in the house.
ReplyDeleteThanks for having me and for the kind words. Have a great weekend!
I love this!!! I'm looking at that room actually wishing I had space for one in my home!! Don't clean, treasures abound down there I'm sure of it ;))💛💛
ReplyDeleteThe more I learn about Julia the more I like her!! This reminds me of Monica from friends and her closet that she kept locked and a secret because it was where she put everything she didn't have a place for!! Thanks for sharing Julia!!!!
ReplyDeleteLOL, yes you got that right! And I have Monica hair to match ;)
DeleteHey, I have a basement like that. Mine is a shameful 1000 sq feet of that, however. At least Julia's is a petite hoard. A girl just needs to have a place to "shop" for her home on a moments notice, right?
ReplyDeleteUgh Julia! I'm not following your blog anymore!!:) What, is that all you've got??! Now if you were in the mess with a cigarette and bottle of vodka I would be impressed! LOL Love it! You are still on my list. We all have our closet or room full of dirty secrets!

I'm impressed you have only one room that looks like this- I have at least three!!
ReplyDeleteLOL. Looks just like my basement. Love it, Julia!
ReplyDeleteAngela @ Number Fifty-Three
You're in good company. My kitchen counters, bathroom counters and home office usually look like that!
ReplyDeleteI just broke down two weeks ago and hired a neighbor part-time who is organizing everything to pin neat precision, and I love it, because I know on my own, it would never happen!
What an honest confession and I like it. We all have at least one space like this. Your home is stunning.
ReplyDeleteI have MORE than one space that looks like that…don't worry. :)
ReplyDeleteJulia - If it makes you feel any better, our whole basement currently looks like that!
ReplyDeleteLooks like half of our house right now, haha! :) Seriously, Julia has amazing style, and her home is absolutely beautiful! Thank you for the introduction!
ReplyDeleteXOXO,
The Glam Pad
Looks perfectly fine to me! How great to have one big space to shove everything into. I have a few closets and cabinets spread out that look so similar, and don't even get me started on the garage!
ReplyDeleteOh I have a space or 3 like that in my house!
ReplyDeleteTHIS makes me smile!!!! I need to move our piles to a more hidden place and not the room you walk by on the way to the bathroom! :)
ReplyDeleteLove it, Julia!

I love this confession! I use the top of my washer and dryer - when company is a-comin' they are packed to the ceiling with junk that has been lying around my house! Everyone needs a place to stash stuff. Julia's house is so pretty and cool…..I love it.
ReplyDeleteIf 80% of your home is that clean an organized, who cares if 20% is a mess! It looks like it's a semi-small space in the basement which I highly doubt guests are going to want to see. Plus, I think everyone has a space like that in their home!
ReplyDeleteLove your home feature...and Julia, I have two areas of our house that are an ABSOLUTE disaster. I now keep the door closed to one of those areas because even I don't want to lay eyes on it. You aren't alone.
ReplyDeleteAnd besides, your home is SO FRIGGIN' amazing! :)
WOW - new reader and my lordy your home is beyond!!!!!
ReplyDeletePS _ have a giveaway going on; check it and spread the love karma
At our house we call the junk space "the Room of Requirement," after the heap at Hogwarts. Everybody needs one. Best wishes!
ReplyDeleteoh that's nothing to what is lurking in my basement!!!!!
ReplyDeletelike Monica from Friends! I think we all have a little hoarder inside of us and it makes me love you more that you're sharing your catch-all room.
ReplyDeleteI am new around here and I love your fess up series. Julia is great and her home is fabulous. If my house could stay that clean on any given day then I wouldn't even care about that laundry room. I do however have that exact same room but it is in my attic and nobody is allowed up there. Like, ever!
ReplyDeleteHa! I love it!! I think this is way better than having messy rooms...like all.....that would be me....not terribly messy but not picture perfect. That is so funny that I blogged about her closet re-do...and that was the first time I had come across her blog. I adore every one of these photos!
ReplyDeleteTell me ...how was your evening with Jessie!!
How I wish mine was all contained in one room like that! It's all over the basement! I thought I saw a treadmill in there, I have one of those too...ugh!
ReplyDeleteI actually exercise on that elliptical Pam which is another secret ;)
DeleteHi Juia!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful taste you have! Love your home! We all have a catch all space and I admire you for sharing yours! My kind of girl; keeping it real:-).
Thanks Stacey!
DeleteI wish I had just one messy room, but I feel like I've got plenty! Thanks for 'keeping it real' for a change! By the way, I LOVE your style!
ReplyDeleteToo funny...looks exactly like my basement! Our playroom is the attic, but most kids that come over for playdates think they are headed to basement. I overheard my son the other day say, "Trust me you do not want to go down there...it's creepy!!" :)
ReplyDeleteAt least your mess is tucked away in the basement! Mine is in our guest bedroom (and yes, the door is ALWAYS shut). Your home is gorgeous, doesn't change a thing - just makes you more human ;) xxx
ReplyDeleteI love it Julia! We all have "that" place we shove stuff out sight. You're lucky to have an entire room dedicated to it. And I love that you're not planning to make it pretty. It has a specific function!
