fess up friday - in the weeds

Great praise! The weekend is finally upon us! I know everyone says they need a weekend to recharge, but I really need it. I have what you could call a lot of good problems - lots of work (wahoo and thank God), two big secret projects I can't share yet but they are mongo time suckers, and a new school who "encourages" a lot of participation from their Kindergarten parents. Oy people!

So because of all of that, I apologize for being patchy as of late. I might be that way for a few more weeks but hang in there with me, I promise it will be worth it.

And although all of that is true, it isn't the most exciting fess up. So I'll share another with you...

Bruce Willis was my first legit crush. And because of that crush, I was compelled to create this...work of art.

I ripped this page out of the TV Guide, (I couldn't be bothered to take the time to cut the page out - a sign of DIY sloppiness to come) and covered that horrible Cybil Shepard's face with my own. It appears that there was no tape in the house, as I made due with band-aids. (again, a sign of my future DIY prowess) And, I obviously pinned this on numerous bulletin boards by the pin marks in my nose and eye. This is me, 100%. As my husband says, "I love how shoddy your workmanship is."

A bulletin board was not its first spot though as I vividly remember taking Elmer's glue (again, I couldn't find tape) to GLUE this to my bedroom wall. Yes, you read that correctly.

So there you go. How is that for a confession? I heart Bruce Willis - circa 1986. He was a funny smart ass - what's not to love?!

It should be noted that I did move on to more legit crushes (for the time) - like a Johnny Depp, circa 21 Jump Street, life size poster and so on. I know, I do have good taste in men.

Now your turn. Who was your first crush? How did you share it? Wasn't Moonlighting a good show? And by the way, per the picture, I wonder what the 'special surprise' was!

  1. AHAHAHAHAAAA!!! Oh my god this is the most amazing thing ever!!! I love it and I love you for sharing it with us! The bandaids as tape was rather creative problem-solving and the pins right through the face show less preciousness, more practicality and gluing it to the wall? Well, that's commitment to your designs. DIY prowess indeed!! Happy Friday my dear! xxx

  5. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. Oh my God, you just made my day. The band-aids really make it.

My first crush that I can recall was Danny Wood of New Kids on the Block, who is totally all meathead-y and not my style at all...apparently he was in 1989.

  6. Well, now our age difference is really showing. I worked on Moonlighting as a costumer with the large crowd extra's on big shoots. He was as dreamy in person. Even the guys had crushes on him. One of my biggest crushes was George Michaels?! That was obviously impossible for a multitude of reasons.

  9. It used to be a huge treat when my parents would let me stay up late and watch moonlighting! My workmanship is just as shoddy around my own house.

  10. LOL I'm sure your mom LOVED trying to unglue that creation from your wall! My very first celeb "crush" (kindergarten style) was Michael Jackson when "Beat It" came out and before he was totally weird (which is funnier now, because my 3yo LOVES that song). In 4th grade my friend and I wrote a fan letter to Richard Dean Anderson (the ultimate DIYer! He was HOT back in the MacGyver days). By 5th grade I'd moved on to NKOTB and Joey McIntyre was on a giant poster on my closet door, and my bedroom door was plastered with NKOTB tear-outs from Bop magazine. Ah, good times!

  15. Oh my gosh I love this post so very much! I LOLed for real :) Elmers Glue, oh yes, and also toothpaste was also a great adhesive way back when. Well I'm old, so I think my first legit crush was Ponyboy in The Outsiders (aka C. Thomas Howell). Wallpapered my bedroom walls with Teen mag pics of him, Matt Dillon and all the other heartthrobs of the early 80s! My mom was so much nicer than I am to let me do that and never complain! Thanks for a good laugh, you were a DIYer from the early years!!

  23. hysterical. on so many levels. my first legit crush on Bo Duke was only the beginning in a long list of crushes quickly eclipsed, in no particular order equally by real-life peeps and the characters they portrayed: Rick Springfield, Bart Connor, Simon LeBon, Ponyboy Curtis, Rob Lowe, Johnny Depp, Jake Ryan, River Phoenix, and Patrick Dempsey a la Can't Buy Me Love and John Cusack a la Say Anything. To name but just a few...

  24. Love, Love this post....I have to say my first crush was Rick Springfield. I wear a button I received for Christmas on my sweater to jacket to purse strap all year and his poster and magazine cut outs were all over my wall. He was it for me my dream!!! To this day when Jessie's Girl plays I crank up the radio and sing my lungs outs...
