williamsburg fabrics and giveaways

*This is a sponsored post by Williamsburg but all opinions are my own.

It is no secret to anyone who has read this old blog more than a time or two that I love fabric. Almost to a fanatic, stalker level. And I'd be willing to bet that since you read this old blog, you share my obsession. And let's be real, only a fool wouldn't get excited about the possibility of a new fabric to play around with and occasionally pet in admiration.

So when the Williamsburg brand contacted me about trying out something from their newest collection, Williamsburg Classics IV, I couldn't type YES quick enough. I've long been a fan of the way that Williamsburg and their partners are able to take the classic and traditional gems from the world of Williamsburg and give them a fresh spin in their fabrics. The fabric I used on the lampshades in the girls' room (the jumping off point for the whole space) is a Williamsburg fabric and it is still one of my favorites. This new collection is all about chinoiserie and vintage Asian-inspired fabrics.

Dunmore Dragons in Sapphire

Since I've got plans to make some changes to the dining room, I found this opportunity rather fortuitous and decided to get something great for the curtains. Right away, the Dunmore Dragons in the Sapphire colorway said "pick me". And when fabric speaks to you, it is best never to ignore it. It is the exact direction I'm wanting to go in the dining room, blue and white and awesome all over. More dining room changes to come, but for now I'll just enjoy these (foo) puppies.

Here are some other options from the new collection that are definitely on my wish list.

Lamerie Lattice in Sapphire

Asian Arcadia in Black Orchid

Bray Flamstitch in Ladybug

Georgian Geo in Smoke

Lightfoot Garden in Sapphire
Pretty good, right? And the best part is that the lovely people at Williamsburg are ready to spread the love again and gift one lucky person with 2 yards from the new collection. Just enter below and cross those fingers. The giveaway ends next Wednesday. Good luck!

good problems and giveaway reminders

The sun is shinning today, so that's a good start. I refuse to mention temperatures anymore. Damn them.

This week is proving to be one where I am a bit overbooked, which is not nearly as fun as being over served, let me tell ya. Nevertheless it is a good problem to have.

So follow along on Instagram as I run around town, and don't forget today is the LAST DAY to enter the giveaway. Tell you friends, your family, and your mailman if you like him.

Come back tomorrow when the winner will be announced. Wahoo.

Cheers!

wash away winter giveaway

As I mentioned yesterday, I love adding K. Hall products to my house whenever I can. So in honor of my bathroom makeover I thought a sweet smelling giveaway was in order.

K. Hall makes the finest soaps, lotions, candles etc. you can find and they smell simply heavenly. K. Hall is a local (St. Louis) company with a national reputation. They've been featured in House Beautiful, Lonny, Real Simple, Allure, Southern Living and the list goes on and on.

I have the pleasure of living not too far from their store so I stalk shop there often (they also have great things for the home and beautiful jewelry). But since I can't take you all shopping with me I thought I'd bring K. Hall to you.

To enter do any or all of the following (one comment per entry)

1. Following The Little Black Door (Google Connect or Bloglovin)
2. Like The Little Black Door on Facebook
3. Tell me which scent you are most excited to try
4. Like K Hall on Facebook

and PLEASE make sure you aren't a "no-reply" commenter or I won't be able to contact you when you win!

The winner will be announced March 5.

Good Luck!

guest post at the green room interiors

I'm over at The Green Room Interiors  today, pimping Kimberly's dollhouse. Check it out and see my boards for her living and dining rooms. There was no budget and she provided some amazing pieces to start with so basically I went hog wild.

And don't forget to enter the AO at Home giveaway for your chance to win a $200 gift card from Target!

Happy Monday!

ao at home and target giveaway

One of my favorite things about blogging is discovering talented people whom you would otherwise never have a chance to meet. I've gained quite a number of friendships through this little black door of mine and these women (and a few dudes) inspire me and blow my mind with their creativity.

Kimberly Hughes is one such friend. She and I have been trading ideas and design crushes for a long time and I was so thrilled for her when she got her dream job last year as the editor for AO at Home. Never did I imagine I would benefit so much from her job! :)

My girl worked for months recreating AO at Home, the design blog for AO.com, the online appliance home for the UK, and since its relaunch it has become one of my favorite stops.

AO at Home is chalk full of goodness with inspiration roundups, buying guides, amazing interviews and recipes to make you drool. Not to mention all the DIY ideas and seasonal projects.

And here is where it gets even better. To celebrate the launch of AO at Home's new look, they are going to give one lucky person a $200 gift card to Target. Wahoo! Can you think of anything better?

In order to win you must be a GFC follower of Little Black Door (the blue 'join this site' button on the right side of the page) and leave a comment for me below.

For additional entries:
- Follow AO at Home on Twitter
- Follow LBD on Facebook
- Follow AO at Home on Facebook
- Follow LBD on Instagram
- Follow AO at Home on Pinterest

The contest will end next Friday, September 13 and the winner will be announced that following Monday.

Good luck and happy weekend!

June 5, 2013

check this out

I told you that weekend was going to be a killer! Sorry for my MIA-ness on Monday but mamma was beat.

The good news is the weekend was a success. I had three great new client meetings and finished up a rather large article for St. Louis At Home Magazine that the hubs called 'the term paper'.

The bad news is now I've got another list of looming deadlines. You know when you've been working on something for a long time and you feel like you're in good shape, but then that thing that seemed like it was weeks away is suddenly around the corner and you feel totally unprepared? That would be me.

We are hosting my parent's 50th wedding anniversary party at my house next weekend (which is going to be awesome) and I suddenly feel very behind.

So please bear with me over the next few days as I might be a bit patchy with my posts. I promise tons of good DIYs and pretty pictures post party though, so it will be worth it. Cross my heart.

In the meantime, I've got two great deals you should check out.

My friend Mary Ann at classic. casual. home. is having a one of a kind giveaway and shopping opportunity for a great cause. Please go check it out - you will be able to help the widowed women of Uganda and find great jewelry all at the same time.

Also, my girls at Indie Mats are having a week full of great deals. Today its a buy one get one free that you don't want to miss. Check it out.

Now I'm off to do some more weeding and a little power washing. If only I could power wash the weeds, I'd kill two birds with one stone. Hmmm.

Have a great day!

April 22, 2013

you had to be there

It's warm, sunny and Monday. Two out of three, not bad. How was your weekend? Did you wake up confused as to what day it might be? I did. Bummer when you think for a split second that it is Sunday.

Anyway, as those of you that are long time readers know, I can't go very long without changing things around these parts. It is chronic and there is no end in sight (sorry hubs). But often the changes are small enough that they aren't meaty enough for their very own post. (see, I now remember the word meat)

So I thought I'd gather them up and every once in a while do a little show and share - thus, the birth of 'you had to be there'.

Let's go into the living room, shall we? Don't look at the Barbie's on the floor but turn your eye up. I decided that keeping blue and white platters in a closet is just as bad as putting Baby in a corner. So I've added them above my favorite Pink Pagoda couple.

Since you are already looking up, you may also notice this.

Yes, I'm changing my dining room chandelier again.

We finally have a rug in our bedroom.

The hubs got it for me for Christmas. Which is in December. And it is now April. I know, I know.

This is happening in the entry hall (if you can call it that).

And finally, my ongoing battle with my mantel continues and I've changed it yet again. I pulled out some old sconces that I got at an estate sale way back when and slapped those suckers up. I had always thought I might spray them but I think I like the patina on the brass. And I love my pink candles.

Why yes, that is one of my lovely Indie Mats on the mantel. Good eye! Let it serve as a reminder - this is the last day you can enter to win these lovelies for your own home! Make sure you enter to win!

What about you? Do you move things around your house often? Made any small updates lately?

April 19, 2013

what's the word

Tired. That's the word. I forgot the word for meat last night. Meat. And I love meat. Does anyone else feel like this was three long weeks rolled into one? Thank goodness the weekend has finally arrived.

I have tons of wonderfulness to share with you - another finished client space, some projects I've started around here and of course all the deets on the party table I did this week. But for whatever reason I'm having trouble stringing together the words. Like I said, just plain tired.

So I will leave you with a beautiful picture as I pretend this is where I'm going for the weekend.

indie mats giveaway

I'm about to make this a very happy Monday. Have I got a treat in store for you!

Y'all know I have a huge addiction to gallery walls. I've done several in my own house (here, here and here) and I'm always thinking of where I can put another one. In fact, I've had a blank bathroom wall giving me the stink eye for some time now (no pun intended) and it needed to be addressed.

So of course when I saw a display for Indie Mats at one of my favorite local stores I had to snap a set up for myself right away. OK, it wasn't that quick. It took me a good 20 minutes to decide which color and style to pick. It was fabulous wall overload.

Then I reached stalker fan status when I got home and learned more about the company. Emma and Anne are two friends with one great idea. They create high-style mats that are sustainable, recyclable and totally interchangeable. And extra bonus, no nails needed. My plaster walls thank you ladies. The cherry on top of it all, everything is made locally. Sisters are doin' it for themselves. (everyone sing with me)

To share the style, Emma and Anne have generously agreed to gift a set to one very lucky person. Here's what you need to do:

  • Make sure you are a follower of little black door {if you already are, I knew I liked you. If not, just click 'Join this Site' over on the right} Then, visit the Indie Mats store, pick out your favorite set and leave me a comment below with your pick. (make sure I have your email address too)

For additional entries you can also:
  • Blog, pin, tweet, Facebook or Instagram about the giveaway and link back to this post

Be sure to leave a comment each time you've done any or all of these and then mark your calendars. The giveaway ends Monday, April 22nd at midnight.

Best of luck!

treats in the mail

Were we supposed to have had a weekend? Because if we did, I missed it. I barely sit down and its Monday again. Oh joy. I've got errands and sanding to do today for I've made myself quite the ambitious schedule for the week. I find I'm my most nieve on Monday mornings, might as well set my sights high.

I do though want to share the highlight of my weekend. Look at the pretty package I received on Saturday.

It is the canvas I won on Kat's fab blog from the uber talented Liz at Birdaria. It is even bigger and better than I expected, and my expectations were high! I will be pinning more this week for sure as it is never too early to start my Christmas list. (are you listening Luke?)

So thank you again to Liz and to Kat for the wonderful gift. I've got big plans for it!

To a successful Monday!
