Happy Monday y'all! I'm still recovering from an A+ weekend but I've got one more party in me. That's why I'm over at The Pink Pagoda joining in on the Blue and White Monday party.
Come over and join in on the fun.

fess up friday - in the weeds
Great praise! The weekend is finally upon us! I know everyone says they need a weekend to recharge, but I really need it. I have what you could call a lot of good problems - lots of work (wahoo and thank God), two big secret projects I can't share yet but they are mongo time suckers, and a new school who "encourages" a lot of participation from their Kindergarten parents. Oy people!
So because of all of that, I apologize for being patchy as of late. I might be that way for a few more weeks but hang in there with me, I promise it will be worth it.
And although all of that is true, it isn't the most exciting fess up. So I'll share another with you...
Bruce Willis was my first legit crush. And because of that crush, I was compelled to create this...work of art.
I ripped this page out of the TV Guide, (I couldn't be bothered to take the time to cut the page out - a sign of DIY sloppiness to come) and covered that horrible Cybil Shepard's face with my own. It appears that there was no tape in the house, as I made due with band-aids. (again, a sign of my future DIY prowess) And, I obviously pinned this on numerous bulletin boards by the pin marks in my nose and eye. This is me, 100%. As my husband says, "I love how shoddy your workmanship is."
A bulletin board was not its first spot though as I vividly remember taking Elmer's glue (again, I couldn't find tape) to GLUE this to my bedroom wall. Yes, you read that correctly.
So there you go. How is that for a confession? I heart Bruce Willis - circa 1986. He was a funny smart ass - what's not to love?!
It should be noted that I did move on to more legit crushes (for the time) - like a Johnny Depp, circa 21 Jump Street, life size poster and so on. I know, I do have good taste in men.
Now your turn. Who was your first crush? How did you share it? Wasn't Moonlighting a good show? And by the way, per the picture, I wonder what the 'special surprise' was!

paisley is the pattern for fall
I'm craving a paisley fix. For some reason when the weather starts to get cold I want cute scarfs, a pair of boots, hot chocolate from Starbucks and some paisley eye candy. I've always loved it since my mom let my sister and I pick the coolest ever purple paisley wallpaper for our room back in the super awesome 80s. Good times.
There are so many ways to incorporate paisley into your home. Art, fabric, furniture, bedding, you name it.
I could go on and on. So what say you? Are you into paisley as much as I am? How do you like it best? On the walls, furniture or maybe on you?

vessel sinks - yes or no
I've got vessel sinks on the brain.
What do you think? Do you have one? Are they messy/hard to keep water contained? Any you recommend?

fess up friday - animal prints
I'm about to tell y'all something that is probably a big no no in the blog world.
I'm not down with animal prints.
I know that's probably like telling a room full of kids that I hate Santa but animal prints have never been my jam. They always make me think of that horrible lycra outfit Michelle Pfeiffer wore in Married to the Mob. Eww.
The funny thing is, I like them in magazines, and in other people's home, but I've just never gotten on board. But the more I study, the more I find that some of my favorite images have animal prints involved.
I'm thinking I need to go with a 'What About Bob' approach and take baby steps into this whole animal print thing. Here are some ways to dip your toe into 'the jungle'.
So now its your turn to fess up - what design secrets are you keeping? Share!
And one last reminder, today is the last day to sign up for your chance to win a $200 gift card to Target! (oh yeah). Giveaway ends tonight at midnight!

estate sales strike again
Saturday was a peaceful day. The hubs and I had both had long, stressful weeks and we had zero plans for the weekend. A rare treat. The girls slept in and the sun was shining. Life was good. If I was in a Disney movie, I would have been singing in a field with a blue bird on my shoulder.
We went out to breakfast and were heading to the park for some quality playground time when we drove by my favorite Saturday sight - an estate sale sign. My sweet and loving hubs, who knows me so well, immediately said "drop us off at the park and you can run by and check out the sale." (he gets an extra Christmas present this year) Ithrew helped everyone out of the car and drove over to check it out.
It was crowded but I wasn't finding anything that spoke to me. Until, on my way out, I saw him. I smiled and he said "pick me."
His trunk was "injured" as the lady told me, but all of his parts were right there next to him just waiting to be put back together. And at $2.50 I couldn't go wrong. If this dude was in tip top shape he would be a few hundred. Until...crap. I was so busy enjoying my lazy Saturday that I had been too lazy to remember my wallet.
I ran out to the car and checked for loose change. I found a dollar in quarters and took a chance. I explained that I wanted the broken elephant and was it negotiable. "All I have is a dollar," I said in my best 'take pity on my' voice.
"I'll give it to you for $1if you promise not to use Elmer's Glue to put it back together. That just won't hold like you'll want it to," said the old lady in charge.
Umm, OK. That's a deal.
I love his detail.
And I think I will name him Elmer. In honor of the coo coo lady who let me have him for $1.
Do you have any good estate sale stories? Do you have something you couldn't pass up, even if it wasn't in the best shape? Have you ever tried to glue something this heavy back together using Elmer's? I didn't think so.
And remember, there is still time to sign up for your chance to win a $200 gift card to Target! (oh yeah). Giveaway ends Friday!

guest post at the green room interiors
I'm over at The Green Room Interiors today, pimping Kimberly's dollhouse. Check it out and see my boards for her living and dining rooms. There was no budget and she provided some amazing pieces to start with so basically I went hog wild.
And don't forget to enter the AO at Home giveaway for your chance to win a $200 gift card from Target!
Happy Monday!

ao at home and target giveaway
One of my favorite things about blogging is discovering talented people whom you would otherwise never have a chance to meet. I've gained quite a number of friendships through this little black door of mine and these women (and a few dudes) inspire me and blow my mind with their creativity.
Kimberly Hughes is one such friend. She and I have been trading ideas and design crushes for a long time and I was so thrilled for her when she got her dream job last year as the editor for AO at Home. Never did I imagine I would benefit so much from her job! :)
My girl worked for months recreating AO at Home, the design blog for AO.com, the online appliance home for the UK, and since its relaunch it has become one of my favorite stops.
AO at Home is chalk full of goodness with inspiration roundups, buying guides, amazing interviews and recipes to make you drool. Not to mention all the DIY ideas and seasonal projects.
And here is where it gets even better. To celebrate the launch of AO at Home's new look, they are going to give one lucky person a $200 gift card to Target. Wahoo! Can you think of anything better?
In order to win you must be a GFC follower of Little Black Door (the blue 'join this site' button on the right side of the page) and leave a comment for me below.
For additional entries:
- Follow AO at Home on Twitter
- Follow LBD on Facebook
- Follow AO at Home on Facebook
- Follow LBD on Instagram
- Follow AO at Home on Pinterest
The contest will end next Friday, September 13 and the winner will be announced that following Monday.
Good luck and happy weekend!

no-reply comments and links in a new window
Have I told you lately how much I love talking with you? Yes, you.
I love the comments you leave me each and every day and because of those comments I've started a lot of great friendships through this blog. I try my very best to answer each and every comment that comes in, but for some of you that's hard to do.
Yes, its the dreaded 'no-reply' comment discussion. I'm not the first to talk about this and there are many out there who will tell you how to correct this (here, here and here) but the crib notes version is, if you have a Blogger profile (which you can have even if you don't have a blog of your own) and your profile does not include your email, then you are a no-reply blogger. Also, if you have your Google + account linked as your blogger profile then you are a no-reply blogger as well.
This is frustrating because then I can't email you back. I used to do my best to research how to get a hold of the no-reply commenters and would sometimes be able to find an email address after a lot of digging but that is a lot of time. A lot.
So PLEASE check your profile and make sure that your email is listed, because I want to chat with you.
And one other thing for all of you fellow bloggers out there. In my former life I was in the big world of web development. Exciting, I know. And in that life I learned a few cardinal rules in the world of the web, one of which is broken all the time. Every single link within a post, whether it goes to another page on your blog or an entirely different site, should open in a new window.
You don't want a reader to be in the middle of an engrossing post that you worked hard to create to click on a link within the middle of your story and be taken away to another site. It is just like putting down a book only to find when you come back that you've lost your place. So frustrating. And frustrating to you as well if that reader doesn't end up going back to your site to finish that post. You don't want that.
The good news is that this is a super easy fix. When setting up your link, just make sure to click the 'open this link in a new window' box and you are all set.
So those are my two public service announcements for the day. And to thank you for your patience during this school lesson, I have a treat for you on Friday. You will love it, trust me.

you must read lonny
I'm interrupting this holiday weekend to tell you that you must read the September issue of Lonny. It is so good. Extra good. Crazy good.
Like I said, crazy good. I've read it twice already and probably will pour over it once more before the day is thru. Go over to Lonny and check it out.
Carry on.
